Scribis Matrix in short (for those in a hurry and want to try immediately):
1) Type or paste the text you want in the editor (I recommend a sentence or at least 3-10 words)
2) Click on button. Most words in the editor become darker and bolder
3) Click now on any of the bold words. You will see that the word you clicked and a number of those that follow it (default is 6, but you can change it), will generate arrays of related words depending on the active thesaurus.
4) From now on, you can continue to generate matrices by clicking on any bold word in the editor.

What is Scribis Matrix. Features and functions
Scribis Matrix is a new tool of the Scribis Project that allows you to generate word matrices. The goal is to help you in the writing process by promoting productive and combinatorial thinking. With the Scribis matrices you will have a synoptic view of the possible variations that the words you have written manage to generate. So you can consider different ways of expressing concepts and images.
Scribis Matrix is quick and easy: write your text, then, when you feel the need to make a review or explore new possibilities, click on . You will see that the button turns yellow and many of the words you have typed change color, becoming black. By clicking on any of these, Scribis will generate the matrices of the word you have clicked and some of the following (and these in turn will change color to blue). Some clarifications:
1) you can get different matrices based on the dictionary you set: by default the dictionary that returns results is the Word2vec one, but by clicking on the others you will get a different matrix for each dictionary. Remember that the active dictionary is indicated with a yellow background (see below for more information on dictionaries)
2) you can choose the range of words to focus on (from 3 to 8, default is 6)
3) you can continue to generate matrices by clicking on any other word (which will become the first of the series of the new matrix)
4) the order of the head words of the matrix may sometimes not be that of the text for reasons of rapid response of the database; if it is important for you to respect the sequence of words, just recycle to get the right order
5) If you write new text, you will need to click again to make the last words clickable
6) Once you don't need the matrix anymore you have two ways to remove it:
And it does not end here! You will immediately notice that even the words inside the matrix are clickable. In fact, if you click on any of these words, you will be able to see in the upper window of the right column further suggestions from other dictionaries, thesauri and phrase database (by default the database of phrases is set which returns short sentences. See after further reading on this function, meanwhile I can tell you that in this case Scribis will look for sentences that contain the word clicked plus the head word of the matrix column). Here is the example screen:
The window to take notes
To complete the explanation of the windows you see on the Scribis Matrix page, the lower window of the right column is a space designed to take temporary notes that you can still save and resume later or whose contents you can copy with a click on the clipboard and then paste them in any of your other programs
Explanation of other functions - Top left menu buttons
Here is a brief presentation of the Scribis functions, with the explanation of each button. Let's start from the top left menu:
to switch to full screen view, recommended for touch devices and for all those with small screens
Copy the text to the clipboard. Remember that when a matrix is active, the "COPY" function is disabled. Press the button or to close the matrix and make the "COPY" function active again
clears all content within the editor
saves what you wrote in the editor in simple TXT format in the default folder (check your browser settings). Remember that when a matrix is active, "SAVE" is disabled. Press the button or to close the matrix and make the "SAVE" function active again
imports a text file (for example one that you saved with the Scribis Matrix). I advise you not to upload texts over 1 MB. Remember that when an array is active, the "IMPORT FILE" function is disabled. Press the button or to close the matrixand make "IMPORT FILE" active again
Deactivate the Matrix function, the text returns to normal, the words are no longer clickable
makes most words clickable allowing then to generate the matrices by clicking on any word among bold ones (the others will remain gray)
allows you to choose the range of words (from 3 to 8) you can work
Bottom left menu buttons
Let's now illustrate the bottom menu always in the left column. Here we have the dictionaries from which you can get the matrices. Given a matrix, you can immediately generate another by clicking on one of the following buttons
is the Word2vec dictionary, generated by neural networks from a corpus of literary texts selected by project Gutenberg
is a dictionary of synonyms
is a dictionary of collocations: most frequent words associated with a given word
is for ROGET'S THESAURUS (old edition)
Top right menu buttons
Here we are now describing the menu located at the top of the right column. Here we have the dictionaries or the database of phrases that will return you the results in the window just below. The yellow background indicates the dictionary or database currently active. They return the results both as you type in the editor and by clicking on the words that are inside the generated matrices
is the Word2vec dictionary, generated by neural networks starting from a corpus of literary texts. It is halfway between a synonym dictionary and an analog dictionary
is a dictionary of synonyms
is a dictionary of collocations: most frequent words associated with a given word
is MOBY THESAURUS, a lexical database created by Grady Ward
is a database of sentences of excellent literary value (a selected corpus from Gutenberg Project)
stops Scribis results
clears all content within the window
We just have to talk about the last menu, the one at the bottom in the right column where there is space for any notes. So let's see the buttons and their functions
copy the currently active note to the clipboard (in yellow)
save the currently active note (yellow) in file (plain text .TXT)
delete the content of the currently active note (yellow)
